Pretty, or not, In polka dot...

I wanted to be pretty in polka dots, but certainly not too pretty and girly.
Hence I added that edgy, black, biker chic, moto jacket just to bring down the sweetness of the polka dot skirt, the pink necklace and the Mary Janes, a notch.
I have always been a sucker for a mix of two different styles in one look, be it a feminine look with masculine touches, casual with a hint of party shine and shimmer, classic with a modern twist or romantic with an edge to it, and today was one of those days of mixing styles.

Tell me, do you like combining two different styles in one look or prefer to play it safe and stick to the norm?

Today I'm linking up with  The Pleated Poppy  for her What I Wore Wednesday.

Neutral territory...

The color scheme of my outfit today is in the neutral territory, I mean, other than a hint of plum in the shirt, everything else is of a neutral shade- browns, blacks and cognac.
The look today may not be rich in colors, but it sure is rich in textures with a combination of quilted tweed in the jacket, faux leather in the skirt, leather in the boots and the faux fur collar.

On another note, did you all watch The Oscars yesterday?
So many stunning looks on the Red Carpet!
Some of my favorites were - Naomi Watts in Armani Prive, Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen, Charliez Theron in Dior Haute Couture and Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture as well.

Tell me, what was your favorite look at The Academy Awards 2013?

Home, not alone!

It has been declared a snow emergency here today and hence I'm home, but thankfully not alone.
The hubby is also working from home today and though it is the perfect day to be tucked under a comforter in you PJs, with a cup of piping hot coffee and watching your favorite shows on TV, I'm not a fool to let go off this opportunity to click a few pics.
A fancy dress break and back to the PJs and sweatshirts again!

Hope you all have a wonderful week end!

I want to break free...

I understand, this is not the time to wear open toed shoes, but my legs are just too tired of the boots and the socks and the tights and the leg warmers! My feet seriously need to breathe!
I literally can hear those poor fellas crying out loud 'I(we) want to break free'!!

This jacket is my latest purchase from Zara and let me tell you, don't just go by the looks! It is as warm and cozy as a wool coat and to top it off it was on sale! (Thanks to Bessie of  Bravoe Runway, for notifying me about the on going sale at Zara!)
I immediately fell for the zip details, the leather trim and the quilted look. And oh yes, this one is collarless, my first ever collar less jacket and without a doubt, one of the best jackets that I own.

All for love...

No, no, before judging me you have to know
that it was a bright, sunny day yesterday
and that the temperature was surprisingly at about 40 degrees Fahrenheit
and that I had a coat on which I took off only for the photo shoot
and that I was excited to wear this Prabal Gurung sandal for which I had to chuck those hideous black tights
and that I was dong it all for love!

Yes, this is my Valentine's Day look as I feel, it has every element of love in it- pink, red and a flirty, floral, full skirt.

Also, the skirt and the shoes are the only two items that I grabbed from the Prabal Gurung collection for Target. Not that I was eyeing a whole lot of things, but I actually quite liked this white floral dress and this lace-up, open toed booties but unfortunately they were not available in the store near us and by the time I was searching online, they were sold out already!

Tell me, did you buy anything from the Prabal Gurung collection for Target?
What are you planning to wear on Valentine's Day?

Happy Valentine's Day to all!

In the blue...

Clearly, I'm in the blue today, with various shades of blue covering me up- the dark wash denim, the medium blue polka dot chambray shirt, a cobalt blue clutch and a purplish blue flower pin with pink making a guest appearance in the shoes and the bracelets. Of course, it seems I can't live without my striped blazer these days!

Different lights...

As yo must have noticed, we, at Fashionably Yours, are not expert photographers.
Our cameras are pretty ordinary, run of the mill, point and shoots and super zooms and our know-how regarding photography, is pretty limited too!
We keep experimenting with lights and settings to get better quality photographs.
So we thought of catching the golden hour the other day.
We took two sets of photographs of the same outfit in two different lights and at two different times- one at around 2 in the afternoon and the other at dusk, at the golden hour.
Can you see the difference here?
The golden hour almost changed the actual color of the dress!
The conclusion- the photographs taken at the golden hour does not reflect the true colors of an outfit.Hence, I'm going to use this light for taking photographs of outfits where color does not play a pivotal role, like outfits in neutrals or black and white.

Also, I've learned a lot about photography from my blogger friends and one name worth mentioning here is the lovely Lisa from Expanding. Do visit her blog for some excellent tips on parenting and photography.

By the way, are you all excited for Prabal Gurung for Target?  I am! Can't wait for the collection to hit the stores this Sunday.

Feeling spring-ish!

I can't deny the fact that the mercury is still dipping down to minus digits every other day.
I can't deny the fact that it is still snowing every once in a while.
Then again, I can't also deny the fact that it is February already;
and I can't deny the fact that, on a sunny day like this and in a floral, full skirt like this, I have started  feeling spring-ish already!

You must be thinking springish?? Is that even a word? Well, to my surprise, I googled springish and it actually popped up with meaning!!
I can't also deny the fact that language is, after all, created by us human beings and there is nothing wrong in creating a new word once in a while when you are bored with the existing set of words, what do you think?

Today, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy  for her What I Wore Wednesday and  The Tiny Heart  for her Look What I Got link up, and guess what's the deal in this look- this fabulous, floral skirt is just $9.99 on sale!
